F-16 Fighting Falcon

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American multirole jet fighter aircraft. The Fighting Falcon is a dogfighter with innovations including a frameless, bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while under high g-forces, and reclined seat to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot. The pilot sits high in the fuselage with the canopy support-bow behind him, out of his field of view. This and the bubble canopy give the pilot an unobstructed field of view, a feature vital during air-to-air combat. The seat is reclined 30 degrees (other seats are typically inclined around 13 degrees). The control stick is mounted on the right armrest rather than between the legs as is traditional. In addition, a Heads-Up Display (HUD) displays vital information in the pilot's field of view. In designing the F-16, advanced aerospace science and proven reliable systems from other aircraft such as the F-15 and F-111 were selected. The F-16A, a single-seat model, first flew in December 1976.
